Decorex introduces Ten x Ten, bringing together 100 of the best design objects of 2026 together in one installation.

Ten x Ten is a new landmark feature of 100% Design Africa that will be showcased at Decorex Cape Town (25 to 28 June) and Decorex Joburg (30 July to 2 August).

The installation brings together 100 of the most compelling design objects of 2026 from a selection of 10 categories that map design from floor to ceiling: lighting, tiles, stools and pedestals, basketry, heritage craft, ceramics, wall coverings, textiles, glassware, and furniture.

Anchored by the large-scale fabric sculptures inspired by the work of Tshwane-based AI artist Imagine_That, 100% Design’s featured artist for 2026, Ten x Ten creates an immersive environment where the boundaries between artwork, object and experience deliberately blur.

Following a winding path through the exhibition, visitors will move between objects sourced from across South Africa, Morocco, Nigeria, Italy and other design destinations, revealing how materials, makers and ideas move across continents and emphasising Africa’s growing importance on the world design stage.

Although the series of interconnected pavilions encourages viewers to take a closer look, Ten x Ten also rewards those who take a wider view. Laid out to read as “100%” when viewed from above, the configuration of the pavilions reinforces the idea that the full picture only emerges when you step back and take it all in.

The ambition behind the exhibit is to take a snapshot of design as it stands in 2026: what’s being made, how and by whom. It’s an invitation to consider design from every angle and learn something new about the industry, objects or themselves.

Contributors include Thabisa Mjo, Kartell, Willowlamp, Wiid Design, Romo Fabrics, Glo Lighting, Robin Sprong Wallpapers and a range of independent studios and makers. Objects have been selected by Decorex co-creative directors Alan Hayward and Garreth van Niekerk along with a panel of category experts, including Cape Town gallery Art Formes and Sinegugu Ngxongo – granddaughter of master weaver Beauty Ngxongo and founder of Bambizulu.

At its core, Ten x Ten is a collection of objects worth caring about, chosen for the quality of thinking behind them just as much as the quality of their making. Where Decorex’s The Soft Life theme asks what it means to design for how we actually live, Ten x Ten answers with 100 objects that prioritise craft, material and meaning over trend.

For those unable to attend the Cape Town Ten x Ten show, Decorex will also bring these beautiful objects to Joburg.
